GABA
GABA is an amino acid and is found as the most common inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Interestingly, it is synthesized from the main excitatory neurotransmitter Glutamate through the action of the enzyme L-glutamic acid decarboxylase. Thus, the equilibrium between excitation and inhibition is quite easily adjustable throu gh the conversion of Glutamate into GABA.
